Rich & Rebekah Wood built their early success in the San Francisco restaurant scene in pivotal roles at Rubicon, Farallon, Harry Denton’s & Scala’s Bistro. After 6 years of owning the successful & charming Russian Hill restaurant, Frascati, Rich and Rebekah decided to open a new restaurant in a neighborhood closer to their home in Oakland. After months of searching they found the perfect spot on College Ave. at the edge of Oakland’s Rockridge district. Wood Tavern embodies the essence of their personalities and provides guests with a sense of comfort unique to the area.

Rich continues to offer his insatiable passion for wine and gracious service. Growing out of his love for service and connection with his community, Rich’s dream is to create a place where you can feel welcome, comfortable and still feel like you treated yourself to a special night out. Rebekah supports the team at Wood Tavern with her creative input, joyful dining room presence and special touches. You can be sure that you will continue to be greeted with fresh flowers and heartfelt warmth.

Rich & Max first met and worked together at Scala’s Bistro in San Francisco. Max moved on to become the opening chef at Paragon, before becoming the executive chef at Frascati in 2004. He has been at Wood Tavern from the beginning and is the pillar of its culinary success. The community loves Max’s rustic hearty fare. He develops straight forward, delicious, rich dishes from the heart. Since Wood Tavern’s opening in early 2007, Max’s accolades have continued to pour in from Bay Area reviewers and from thousands of happy, satiated guests.
